The Chicago Blachawks currently sit in 4th place in the Western Conference and 2nd place in the Central Division. Currently 4 points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers who have played 2 games less than the Blackhawks and a rather large 14 points behind the Detroit Red Wings. Having been on top of the Division earlier in the season the Chicago Blackhawks hope to reclaim that spot by the end of the season.
Currently Patrick Kane leads the team with 54 points with Jonathan Toews close behind at 53 points. Johan Franzen who was acquired via trade has been impressive for the Blackhawks this season scoring 17 goals and 33 points in 37 games with his new team. Although he's not making his impact felt on the score sheet, Brenden Morrow is leading the team in hits with 147, but we hope that his scoring production increases soon. The highest paid player on the team Brian Campbell has been impressive this season putting up 43 points so far.
On the farm there have been some pleasant surprises. Niklas Hjalmarsson is having an excellent season with 56 points in only 54 games leading the team with 104 blocked shots. Before getting injured Hjalmarsson was leading the team in points, but when he came back he wasn't producing the same anymore. However, Hjarlmarsson seems to have found his groove again scoring in 9 straight games. Ben Eager leads the IceHogs in goals and hits with 31 and 165 respectively. Goaltender Antti Niemi has stolen the starting job from Corey Crawford after Crawford was off to a bad start the decision was made to change and it has worked out for the IceHogs as Niemi has posted a 33-13-4 record.
As the trade deadline looms closer the Chicago Blackhawks look to add some final pieces to make some noise in the playoffs. Players like Brenden Morrow and Kris Versteeg have been rumoured to be on the move.
The future is looking bright for the Chicago Blackhawks, management hopes that Lord Stanley will be paying a visit soon.
